Reuters reports that Malaysia will support its palm oil producers in complying with the EU Deforestation Regulation, which is due to take effect on December 30, 2024. The rule requires EU-bound soy, beef, coffee, palm oil and other products to prove their supply chains do not contribute to deforestation.
Malaysian producers' compliance effort reduces the risk of EU market exclusion, which supports palm oil export demand, but added traceability costs may narrow margins.
