DLA Piper's guide explains that the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) bars import, sale or export of covered commodities unless they are deforestation-free, legally produced and backed by a due diligence statement. An update notes that on November 14, 2024 the European Parliament approved a 12-month extension, moving enforcement to December 30, 2025, with a further extension to June 30, 2026 for micro and small enterprises.
Compliance and traceability costs for soy, palm oil and cattle products entering the EU may reduce EU import demand and slow flows from exporters, which weighs on prices for these products; the delay eases that pressure in the near term.
