USDA APHIS restricted imports of animal commodities originating from or transiting Honduras, effective September 12, 2024, after New World screwworm was diagnosed in a horse. Ruminants and swine from Honduras are prohibited, while pet dogs and certain zoo and exotic animals are permitted with certification.
Screwworm restrictions on Honduran livestock tighten animal flows into the US and raise biosecurity concerns for cattle, though Honduras is a small direct supplier, so the price effect is limited.
