India has removed several rice export restrictions over the past two months, some in place since September 2022. The IFPRI analysis examines the effect on African importers, which typically take over half of India's rice exports, and on Indian domestic prices.
Lifting Indian export curbs adds supply to the global rice market and should ease the elevated prices importers have faced for about a year. Expect softer rice export pricing as Indian supply returns.
