On November 22, 2024, Mexico's Chief Veterinary Officer reported a New World screwworm detection in a cow at an inspection checkpoint in Chiapas, near the Guatemala border. USDA APHIS responded by restricting imports of animal commodities from or transiting Mexico with immediate effect.
