Australian barley prices eased by about $5/t over December to around $300/t in South Australia. Malt premiums and basis to US corn have narrowed, and China's domestic grain output rose while its corn imports are estimated to fall sharply in 2024-25.
China is the dominant buyer of Australian barley, so softer Chinese import demand and rising domestic feed supply weigh on export values and local prices.
