Imports of feeder cattle from Mexico were expected to partially resume the week of January 20 after USDA APHIS suspended imports on November 22, 2024. Reopening will be slow as new protocols, facility inspections and a seven-day quarantine are implemented, with Santa Teresa, New Mexico the key port.
Gradual resumption adds feeder supply over time, a mildly bearish factor against tight US feeder supplies.
