The February JRC MARS bulletin reported that EU winter crops were mostly in fair to good condition, though some regions suffered irreversible yield losses. Waterlogging in north-western France and rainfall surpluses in parts of Italy and the Baltics contrasted with soil moisture deficits in Romania, Bulgaria and central and eastern Europe.
Yield losses and a forecast reduction in harvested area in parts of Europe tighten the outlook for wheat and barley supply. This supports feed grain prices if dryness spreads.
