Soybean oil futures on the CME fell to the 3-cent daily limit on May 15 after unconfirmed reports that the EPA proposed 2026 renewable volume obligations of 4.65 billion gallons, well below the industry's 5.25 billion gallon recommendation. Soybean futures also approached their limit down.
A biofuel mandate far below expectations reduces expected soybean oil demand from biodiesel, which pressures soybean oil and, through crush economics, soybean prices.
