The USDA cut the US winter wheat good-to-excellent rating from 52% to 50%, and the first spring wheat rating came in at 45%, well below expectations. Moisture concerns were also noted on the Canadian Prairies.
A weaker-than-expected spring wheat crop rating tightens near-term supply expectations for milling wheat. This supports wheat prices, especially spring and hard red classes.
