Eleven governments have submitted a document asking the EU to weaken the deforestation law further. They seek a new low-risk class and changes to due diligence for EU exports, and they warn of penalties of up to 4% of EU turnover.
If the EU loosens the rules, trade in soy and palm oil could become less costly, but the outcome is uncertain and the price effect is minor for now.
