The June USDA Cattle on Feed report showed the June 1 on-feed inventory at 11.44 million head, in line with estimates, with April placements at 92.2% of 2024 and marketings at 89.9%. The over-150-day inventory was 109% of last year, the largest May figure in the series history.
Lower placements and marketings tighten near-term fed cattle supply, but the heavy front-end inventory limits how much this shortfall can lift prices.
