Energy Intelligence projects a global crude surplus of about 500,000 barrels per day through October, rising to 1.9 million b/d in 2026 as OPEC+ and non-OPEC+ supply grow. The forward Brent curve has moved into contango, and that structure is starting to erode.
A sizable 2026 glut would pressure crude and energy-linked costs lower over time. The erosion of contango signals markets are beginning to price in oversupply.
