Hog slaughter in the four weeks ending July 26 was 3.7% lower than a year ago, below expectations from the July hog survey. USDA also revised some initial slaughter estimates lower, and ham, trim and belly prices remain well supported.
Tighter near-term pork supply supports processing cut prices, while seasonal declines in butt and sparerib values are expected as slaughter rises in the fall.
