Statistics Canada estimates oat plantings rose 2.6% to 2.98 million acres this year. The Western Producer's analyst forecasts average yields of 94.8 bushels per acre, which would put production up 6.8% to 3.32 million tonnes.
A processor says industry sources think the acreage increase is closer to 7-10%.
A larger Canadian crop eases supply for buyers, though strong demand from oat milk and export markets is keeping prices historically high.
