US cattle and beef prices have reached record highs due to tight supply and strong demand. Ground beef hit a record $6.32 per pound in August and beef prices rose 13.9% year-over-year, while the cattle herd is at its lowest since 1951.
CME live cattle futures recently reached $243.58 per hundredweight.
A herd at a 70-year low and farmers reluctant to rebuild herds keep cattle supplies tight, supporting high live cattle and feeder prices for the foreseeable future.
