The yen was heading for its worst month since July as the Bank of Japan disappointed markets. The dollar index rose 0.35% to 99.82 and was on track for a 2% monthly gain, its best since July.
A stronger dollar against the yen raises the cost of dollar-priced feed imports for Japanese buyers and generally pressures dollar-denominated grain and meal prices.
