Reuters reports that a Trump administration bailout for trade-hit US farmers was expected that week. Trump has said tariff income will fund farmer aid, but direct payments to farmers are statutorily capped at $350 million, far below the sums discussed, and can only be changed by Congress.
Expected government aid can support farm incomes and keep acreage and feed grain supply steady, but the legal cap limits how quickly and how much cash reaches farmers, so the price effect is modest.
