Canada's economy grew at an annualized 2.6% pace in the third quarter, well above the 0.5% economists expected, driven by crude oil exports and government spending. The loonie traded near 1.398 per US dollar and posted its biggest weekly gain since May.
Stronger Canadian growth and firmer oil support the loonie, which lowers the cost of USD-priced Canadian imports and feed inputs for Canadian buyers. Expectations of a Bank of Canada easing cycle are also trimmed.
