China's sow herd fell below 40 million at end-October, down from 40.35 million in September, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. The ministry urged major hog producers to cut output and said it would dynamically adjust the national sow herd target.
Government-directed herd reduction lowers future hog output and therefore reduces expected feed grain and soymeal demand, a bearish signal for feed ingredients and a potential support for hog prices over time.
