The yen firmed against the dollar after Japanese officials warned against one-sided and sharp currency moves and signalled readiness to act. The dollar was broadly weaker following the Fed's 25 basis-point cut at its December 10 meeting.
Analysts viewed the warning as a clear hint of intervention.
A weaker dollar and intervention risk can lower the cost of dollar-priced feed imports in yen terms. The effect on grain and meal prices is indirect.
