Frozen sections of the Mississippi River restricted navigation in the week ended Jan. 23, raising freight costs.
CIF New Orleans corn rose $2.10/mt for January shipment and FOB Gulf corn rose $3.25/mt for March shipment. Traders also cited tighter nearby DDGS supplies and firmer North American wheat values.
Barge navigation limits raise the cost of moving corn and other grains to export ports, which lifts Gulf basis and feed co-product prices. Tighter nearby DDGS supplies add upward pressure on feed prices.
