The rupee slipped to a record low of about 95.35 per dollar as crude surged to roughly $126 per Brent barrel on concerns of renewed US strikes on Iran. The currency is down about 6% this year amid foreign investor outflows and a strong dollar.
India imports most of its oil, so higher crude and a weaker rupee raise domestic fuel and import prices, supporting continued dollar demand and pressure on the currency.
