Rabobank's 2026/27 Australian Winter Crop Forecast estimates winter cropping area at 23.1 million hectares, down 8% year on year. Wheat area is projected at 9.8 million hectares, down 20.4%, with barley, canola and pulses forecast higher.
Western Australia is expected to reach a record 9.47 million hectares.
A smaller Australian wheat area points to tighter export supplies and firmer wheat prices. Higher barley and canola plantings partly offset this for feed and oilseed markets.
