South Korean retail egg prices have surged as avian influenza culled 11.34 million laying hens last winter, about 14% of the national flock. Average daily egg output in May fell 3.6% year on year, and rebuilding will take more than six months.
Korean layer losses cut local feed demand for corn and soymeal, while the supply gap may support imported feed purchases only marginally. The impact on global feed prices is small.
