Dry weather is disrupting crop planting across Asia, with hot, dry conditions hurting crops from India's northwest plains to Australia's eastern wheat belt, Thailand's rice fields and Indonesia's palm plantations. Farmers are reducing planting, and rice prices at major Southeast Asian export hubs have risen around 15% in a month.
Lower planting and tighter rice supply support prices in Asia, and an expected severe El Niño could extend the damage. Wheat and palm oil also face supply risk, and fertilizer and diesel shortages compound the squeeze.
