France's government announced a nitrogen fertilizer aid package on July 9 that pays farmers at least 50 euros per ton on straight nitrogen purchases made between June 1 and September 30. Urea demand accelerated immediately and French granular urea rose to about 495 euros per ton from 460.
UAN demand also surged, and some suppliers withdrew offers pending price reassessment.
The subsidy pulls nitrogen demand forward into the purchase window, tightening European urea supply and supporting prices. The measure also diverts demand away from NPK and ammonium sulfate, which are not covered.
