Russian grain export problems through the Black Sea, including damage to Novorossiysk terminals, are pushing cheaper Russian wheat and barley overland into Kazakhstan and Central Asia. Kazakh wheat prices fell during August 10-16, and Kazakh barley dropped 5,000 tenge per ton.
A weaker ruble adds to Russia's price advantage.
Redirected Russian supply is undercutting Kazakh and Central Asian export prices for both wheat and barley. Importers in the region have more low-cost alternatives, which keeps regional values under pressure.
