House Agriculture Chairman Glenn Thompson is pushing for $5 billion of federal aid for specialty crop producers out of a $12 billion farm aid package in a proposed reconciliation bill. Specialty crop growers already received $1.6 billion earlier this summer.
Additional aid could cushion producer finances, but specialty crops have little direct link to feed grain or oilseed prices.
