The Canadian dollar fell to a six-week low against the US dollar, trading 0.5% lower at 1.3990 per US dollar. The Federal Reserve had raised its benchmark rate by a quarter point to a 3.75%-4.00% range and signalled further hikes, and investors bet on additional increases.
Expectations of further Fed hikes strengthen the dollar and raise the cost of imported feed inputs priced in USD for non-US buyers. The direct effect on grain and oilseed prices is limited.
