USDA will reopen the Santa Teresa, New Mexico port to Mexican cattle after blocking imports for over a year over New World screwworm. The pest was found in a Texas calf in June, and US case counts have stayed relatively contained while Mexican cases keep rising.
Reopening adds feeder cattle supply, but analysts expect limited relief for record retail beef prices, so the feeder and live cattle complex may see modest bearish pressure.
