The USDA Grain Transportation Report of August 29, 2024 says Canadian railroads CN and CPKC resumed operations after a Canadian Industrial Relations Board order ended a rail outage that began August 22. The board ordered binding arbitration and barred work stoppages during that process, and TCRC union workers returned to CPKC on August 26.
Service recovery is expected to ease the backlog of Canadian grain and oilseed shipments.
Restored Canadian rail service eases the export backlog and reduces the risk of disrupted canola and grain supplies, which limits upward pressure on meal and grain prices.
