The Pan American Health Organization reports H5N1 avian influenza outbreaks in domestic birds, wild birds and mammals across 17 countries in the Americas as of epidemiological week 31 of 2023. Red foxes and skunks were most affected in North America and fur seals in South America.
Three human H5N1 infections have been reported in the Americas since 2014.
The widening geographic spread raises trade and production risks for poultry in the region, but the update contains no new supply loss figures that would move feed prices immediately.
