The US government has reported H5N1 bird flu in seven Texas dairy herds and one human case linked to cow contact. The outbreaks are the first in US cattle, and Texas is the largest US cattle producing state.
Reports also link the spread to migrating ducks and poultry infections.
Poultry infections reduce chicken and egg supply, which can lift poultry prices and feed demand for poultry. The dairy outbreak adds uncertainty to milk output.
