Highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 was detected at a native chicken farm in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, and African swine fever was confirmed at a pig farm in Yeoncheon County. The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs responded with 24-hour movement bans, inspections, disinfection and culling.
Simultaneous poultry and pig outbreaks before the autumn-winter control season raise the risk of further culling and tighter movement limits, cutting domestic supply of chicken and pork and supporting local prices.
