China imported about 26 million tonnes of corn in 2021, far above the typical pre-2020 level of about 5 million tonnes. Brett Stuart of Global AgriTrends expects a similar import volume in 2022 and doubts China's claimed record harvest because domestic prices remain high.
Sustained heavy Chinese corn imports would keep global corn demand firm and support export prices, especially if domestic supply is tighter than officially reported.
