Reports say China has been buying large volumes of grain and corn, including US corn purchases of about 1.0 million metric tons each in April. China's grain imports this year were about 42 million tons, versus about 50 million last year, as Ukraine's corn exports were constrained by the war.
Chinese buying of corn from non-Ukrainian origins supports global corn demand and prices, though lower total grain imports partly offset this.
