A Buenos Aires Grain Exchange report puts Argentina's 2022-23 soybean production at 21 million tons, down 51.5% year on year and the lowest since records began in 2000. Yields fell 45% to 15.4 quintals per hectare after drought and high temperatures.
The government estimates losses of around US$20 billion.
A roughly halving of one of the world's largest soymeal and soyoil exporters' crops removes significant export supply from the market. This is a major bullish driver for soybean meal and soybeans.
