Embrapa's Agrometeorological Bulletin nº18 says most Mato Grosso second-crop corn was sown within the ideal window, which avoided losses from reduced rainfall from April onward. Rains returned in June in western Mato Grosso and helped some late-planted fields.
The bulletin was prepared to help credit and insurance institutions assess the second harvest.
Timely planting limits the production risk from the dry spell, supporting expected corn supply from Mato Grosso. The effect on prices is modest because the outlook is largely unchanged.
