The 2023/24 soybean harvest in southern Brazil was hit first by heavy rain that delayed sowing, then by prolonged dry spells and high temperatures. Mato Grosso yields fell to 49-52 bags per hectare from 63 the previous season, and El Niño reduced rainfall in the center-north.
Lower Brazilian soybean output reduces export availability and supports world soybean and soymeal prices, especially during the off-season when Brazil dominates supply.
