USDA's January 2022 report put 2021 North Dakota corn at 105 bu/acre versus 139 in 2020, and Minnesota at 178 versus 191. Soybean yields also fell in the Dakotas, with North Dakota at 25.5 bu/acre versus 34 in 2020.
Drought-cut yields in the northern Plains tightened regional supplies of corn and soybeans for feed users. The national crop was still large, so the effect on prices was limited.
