The Illinois State Climatologist reports that a top-five wet July was followed by a dry August and early September. About 77% of Illinois is abnormally dry and 20% is in at least moderate drought, with severe drought in several southern counties as of September 10.
Dryness during the late grain-fill period can trim yields in a major corn and soybean state, supporting feed grain and meal prices.
