Iowa had its 20th-driest winter in 154 years of records, with 38% of the state in moderate drought and 2% in severe drought. March rain, sleet and snow recharged soil moisture across much of central Iowa.
It is still too early to judge whether planting moisture will be sufficient.
Iowa is the top corn-producing state, so lingering dryness in its northern and eastern areas is a modest upside risk for corn if spring rain stays short.
