CBOT grain and soybean futures fell sharply on August 4 as oil prices dropped on hopes of a diplomatic resolution to the Iran war that could ease Strait of Hormuz flows. Wheat also tracked Black Sea export risks, while corn and soybeans followed US crop conditions after a hot, dry spell.
Forecasts called for August Midwest rain.
Lower crude oil reduces biofuel-linked demand support for grains and soyoil, and the rain forecast removes weather risk premium, both pushing grain futures lower.
