The Philippine Department of Agriculture secured commitments from millers and importers to buy palay at no less than P17 per kilo for wet and P21 for dry paddy. Stocks are described as tight ahead of the harvest, and import volumes for February are being fine-tuned to stabilize retail prices.
Firm local paddy prices and tight stocks support domestic rice prices until the main harvest arrives in March. Import decisions could still add supply and cap rice price gains.
