The August USDA Crop Production report forecast a record US soybean yield of 53.3 bushels per acre and a crop of 4.425 billion bushels. Soybean futures still rose more than 30 cents for the week, supported by strong Chinese demand and doubts about production levels.
FSA acreage data came in well below projected plantings, leaving final acreage uncertain.
A larger crop is bearish on its own, but strong Chinese buying and questions about acreage outweighed it and lifted prices. Buyers should watch the September FSA update for clarity on final supply.
