The dollar index slipped after US March consumer prices rose 3.3% year on year, slightly below expectations. Michigan consumer sentiment fell to a record low of 47.6, and swaps priced little chance of a rate hike at the April FOMC meeting.
Softer US inflation data and weaker sentiment point to lower rate expectations, which weakens the dollar and supports dollar-priced commodity buying.
