After a late-May rally tied to a US-China trade cease-fire, new-crop corn and soybean futures fell to contract or multi-year lows once trade tensions resumed. The US announced a 25% tariff on $50 billion of Chinese goods and planned to target another $200 billion, and China responded with a tariff list covering 90% of US farm exports to China.
Retaliatory tariffs on US agricultural exports cut expected demand for soybeans and corn, which pushed futures lower.
