US crude stocks at Cushing fell to a decade low while gasoline inventories rose by 6.3 million barrels to 237.7 million, well above analyst expectations. Gasoline futures fell after the EIA data showed a large product build.
A tight Cushing crude position supports WTI, but the surprise product build points to weaker refined-product demand and pressure on fuel prices. The net effect on crude and diesel is mixed.
