US corn futures rose 4.1% on May 30, 2019, and wheat and soybeans also gained strongly. Corn prices were at their highest in nearly three years, but Midwest planting was historically slow.
Excess moisture in the southern Plains also threatened the coming wheat harvest.
Delayed planting threatens yields for both corn and soybeans, and farmers may be discouraged from seeding at current prices, which tightens expected supply. Wet conditions in the southern Plains add upward pressure on wheat, so buyers of feed grains should expect firmer prices.
